Introduction
There’s a saying I often return to: “Everything is energy.”
At first, it sounds abstract, maybe even too “out there.” But when you look closely, at both science and spirit, it becomes undeniable. Every thought, every word, every emotion carries a frequency. And those frequencies ripple through our lives, shaping how we feel, how we connect, and what we attract.
I’ve witnessed this in my own journey. When I lived in constant stress, my world reflected that back to me, rushed conversations, exhaustion, scarcity. But when I shifted into trust, gratitude, and alignment, the people, opportunities, and energy I attracted completely changed. That’s the essence of vibration: we become what we dwell in.
What Do We Mean by Frequency?
Frequency is simply the rate at which something vibrates. In science, it’s measured in hertz (Hz), the cycles per second of a wave. Every atom in your body, every sound you hear, even the Earth itself is vibrating at its own unique rhythm.
In spirituality, frequency refers to the energy state we embody. High-frequency states, such as love, joy, gratitude, and peace, expand us. Low-frequency states, such as fear, shame, guilt, and anger, contract us.
Neither is “good” or “bad”; both are human. But the frequency we stay in most of the time sets the tone of our lives.
The Science of Vibration
Science is catching up with what spiritual traditions have known for centuries:
Quantum Physics:
Everything is energy at its core. What feels solid is actually vibrating particles.
Neuroscience:
Our thoughts and emotions trigger electrical activity in the brain, which influences our nervous system and behaviour.
HeartMath Research:
The heart generates an electromagnetic field measurable up to several feet away, which shifts depending on whether we are in stress (chaotic) or coherence (calm, aligned).
Social Science:
Emotions are contagious. Psychologists call this emotional contagion: the way we “catch” the moods and states of those around us.
In other words, your vibration doesn’t just affect you, it shapes the room you walk into, the way others respond, and the experiences you magnetise.
The Spiritual View: Why Frequency Matters
Every spiritual tradition speaks of vibration in its own way:
Yogic philosophy describes states of consciousness (gunas) ranging from heavy/tamasic to pure/sattvic.
Mystics speak of ascending into love and unity.
Indigenous traditions often honour sound, chant, or drumming to shift vibration.
From this lens, frequency is how we align with the divine, with source, with life itself. When we vibrate at love or gratitude, we resonate with the natural flow of abundance, connection, and healing.
The Frequencies We Live By
You may have seen Dr. David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness, a scale of emotional frequencies from shame (20 Hz) at the bottom to enlightenment (700+ Hz) at the top. While the numbers are symbolic, the principle is clear:
Low frequencies: fear, shame, guilt, anger, grief.
Mid frequencies: courage, neutrality, willingness.
High frequencies: love, joy, peace, enlightenment.

What matters most isn’t never feeling the lower frequencies (that’s impossible, and part of being human), it’s noticing where we spend most of our time, and learning how to shift gently into states that nourish us.
Why We Fall Out of Tune
If we are naturally wired for harmony, why do we often vibrate at states of fear, stress, or scarcity?
Conditioning:
From childhood, we’re taught rules and narratives that keep us in survival states.
Stress and Trauma:
These experiences lodge in the nervous system, creating default vibrations of hyper-vigilance or shutdown.
Cultural Pressures:
Productivity culture, competition, and comparison normalise low-frequency living.
The good news? Just as a string on a guitar can be retuned, so can we.
Ways to Raise Your Frequency
Awareness First:
Notice what frequency you’re currently in.
Journaling, meditation, or simply asking: “Am I contracted or expanded right now?” Notice which activities raise you vibrations and which ones lower it. Make a note of these so that you have a section of things to try when you feel low.
Breath & Body:
Slow breathing, movement, or grounding practices recalibrate your nervous system. I share various breathwork, grounding and other tools to my Instagram Highlights for easy access.
Sound & Music:
Singing, chanting, humming or listening to high-frequency music (like 432Hz) can shift your state quickly. I know as individuals different types of music can help lift us at different times so try to create yourself a playlist of what normally works for you, or play with the idea of exploring what helps you.
Gratitude: It’s simple but profound: daily gratitude raises emotional vibration. personally love my gratitude journal for purchase via my website. Because its digital I have access to it wherever I am to add or reflect as my mood desires.
Community: Surround yourself with people who embody peace, love, or courage. Their frequency entrains yours.
Alignment: Notice when you’re forcing life, versus when you’re flowing with it. Frequency rises in alignment.
Living at Higher Frequencies
When you shift your vibration, everything begins to change:
🌿 Relationships feel lighter.
🌿 Opportunities arrive with ease.
🌿 Stress doesn’t grip as tightly.
🌿 You move through life with trust, clarity, and flow.
This isn’t about bypassing the hard feelings, it’s about learning how to untangle from them or transmute them where needed, so you don’t get stuck.
Conclusion
Your frequency is your signature. It shapes how you feel, how others experience you, and what you attract.
