It's more common than you might think, affecting people across various professions and walks of life. In fact, studies suggest that approximately 70% of people will experience imposter syndrome at some point in their careers. 

I vividly remember my early career days, constantly questioning my abilities and fearing that others would see through my façade. It was a journey of self-discovery and acceptance that helped me overcome these feelings.

Understanding Imposter Syndrome:

Imposter syndrome manifests in various ways, including self-doubt, attributing success to luck, and feeling undeserving of accolades. These feelings can lead to stress, anxiety, and even burnout if not addressed. Recognising these signs is the first step towards overcoming them. By understanding the root causes of imposter syndrome, we can begin to dismantle the false narratives that hold us back.

Strategies to Overcome:

  • Acknowledge Your Feelings: 

Accept that imposter syndrome is a common experience and that you're not alone in feeling this way. Acknowledgement is the first step towards healing and growth.

  • Reframe Your Thoughts: 

Challenge negative self-talk by reminding yourself of your accomplishments and the effort you've put into achieving them. Practice gratitude for your skills and experiences, and recognise that your journey is unique and valuable.

This practice can help reinforce your sense of worth and capability, reminding you of all that you've accomplished. I also like to keep a folder of photos in my phone so its accessible whenever and wherever I may need it. This acts almost as an anchor, allowing me to anchor in the feelings I desire to motivate and propel me forward.
